Things On My Mind #15 – Food Porn (Japan-Korea Edition)

If you are a fan or have seen the The Gilmore Girls, you might know of Luke Danes’ Dark Day – a date solemly marked by the passing of his beloved father. Today’s sort of my Dark Day as well, although I don’t have that impulse to ‘disappear’ into the wilderness to mope.

That aside, I spent the week being frustrated at 2 different courier services – why the hell are the statuses both stuck at 17th October!? Apparently one order has been in the air for 4 freaking days, and another is ‘stuck’ in Chicago since Wednesday. So much for paying extra for first class mail! *Grabs A Handful of Milo’s Fur*

To take things off my mind, I met up with my high-school pal for a gastronomical afternoon after clearing some personal and beauty-related matters. Before heading to our main event, we made a pit stop at Fruit Paradise, an Ajisen subsidiary offering fruit tarts with absurdly attractive presentation. We easily settled on the Mango Banana Tart – 2 of my favorite fruits.

Built around a cheese base, it offsets the sweetness offered by Thai mangoes and bananas. The cafe also serves savory dishes and assorted beverages at reasonable prices. The well-lit atmosphere, surrounded by cheery replicas of the fruit tarts, is a great spot to catch up with friends.

There are numerous reviews raving the food and service offered by Ssikkek Korean Grill BBQ restaurant, particularly at Novena Ville. It is also said to be one of the cheapest Korean BBQ buffets in Singapore. It is of utmost importance to make reservations to ensure a spot, and I highly advise to have dinner before 6pm, especially on weekends.

I made an advanced booking at 5:30PM, and we had free reign over the food, that is until the queue started forming 30mins later. By the time we left around 6:45PM and the weather decided to dampen our spirits with a sudden downpour, there was still a long queue of determined, drenched folks forming right outside the venue.

No meal is complete without PRAWNS!! Although they were pretty huge and fresh, the prawns were not deveined…

I love love love the glass noodles/Japchae! If it weren’t for the long wait, I would have returned for seconds. The fried rice was disappointing – cold and bland.

Assorted meat – Chicken, Pork and Beef.

I simply love my chicken honey-glazed and the marinated meat is still having me drooling all over as I’m typing this in my room. Ever since TANGS started their renovations, my favorite Meat Grill and Sugarcane vendors have scattered to God-knows-where! The honey-glazed chicken from the former is the best I’ve tasted :)~

Staff was on hand to remove charred aluminum foil periodically, and clear plates to avoid clogging up tables.

Generous servings of the watermelons are mention-worthy too! Sweet and juicy!

Hi can I ask the Elizabeth Arden new concealer that you blog about isit really v good coverage? Because I have acne scaring. Is the concealer able to cover it?

  4. Ping says:

Hmm kind of middle like reddish acne scar that left behind. At cheek area. But my skin is dry so I thinking if this concealer provide v good coverage. Does it stick well on the skin? Estée Lauder one I currently using the same one but its kind of dry and orangy. Hmm I’m below Nc 15, is the xolour range of the Elizabeth Arden will match me? Btw can I ask how you apply concealer? Cause I hate it that after I apply powder on top ,the coverage will sort of fade .

      Hey Ping!

      1. The formula adheres well even on dehydrated skin, it works well for me!
      2. The previous one slightly oxidizes but the re-formulated one didn’t give me that problem.
      3. Coverage-wise, it conceals well on my brown-ed scars whereas I needed more coverage for those red, erupted ones.
      4. I just dab on after foundation, set with (translucent/compact)powder and then dab on again(if it fades) with my ring finger and set the area again with translucent powder. Use a sponge with your powder to prevent slipping.
      5. The shade Fair should be fine for you, but best to head down to the counters to get matched.

Hope that clears your doubts :)
