BACKSTORY
One of the most revered brands around, Philosophy was created 16 years ago by the visionary Cristina Carlino, offering cutting-edge technologies with its formulas deeply embedded in the brand’s medical heritage. The founder had previously developed Biomedia, a highly-acclaimed medical skincare line distributed by the world’s leading plastic surgeons and dermatologists.
CLEANSING 101
The utmost important step of a good skincare regimen, you want to choose a gentle product that is efficient in removing grime, excess oils and chemicals accumulated during the day. It is crucial to note that you are not to wash your face more than twice a day to avoid stripping natural sebum produced by the glands in our skin to defend against environmental factors.
CLEANSING BEGINS WITH PURITY
Philosophy offers 3 variants in their Purity Made Simple range:
• Purity Made Simple Mineral Oil-Free Facial Cleansing Oil (S$39)
An oil-based cleanser that melts away impurities and all traces of makeup with its blend of natural oils, and maintains the skin’s natural moisture balance.
• Purity Made Simple Foaming 3-in-1 Cleansing Gel (S$34)
Foaming version of the brand’s award-winning 3-in-1 cleanser; formulated with mild cleansing agents ideal for oily skin types. Eliminates face and eye makeup, muck and tones the skin all in one step.

• Purity Made Simple Foaming 3-in-1 Cleanser (S$34)
Popular among skincare junkies and international publications, this daily cleanser contains a proprietary blend of nerve-calming extracts (smells dominantly of lavender and geranium) and is designed to take the place of your makeup remover, facial cleanser and toner.

Demonstrating the brand’s belief that we should all seek to live life with curiosity, wisdom and joy, their products are aligned with quirky passages. The one on the bottle read:
Philosophy: Purity is natural. We come into this world with all the right instincts. We are innocent and, therefore, perceive things as they should be, rather than how they are. Our conscience is clear, our hands are clean and the world at large is truly beautiful. It is at this time we feel most blessed. To begin feeling young again, we must begin with the most basic step of all, the daily ritual of cleansing.

The milky consistency foams mildy but eradicates even the most stubborn makeup with just one wash. Eye makeup can also be removed by saturating cotton pads with the cleanser, although waterproof mascara and eyeliner remain intact. Due to its fluidity, it seeps into my eyes ever so often and stings my eyes badly. As a result, I use a separate remover for good measure. Those with sensitive eyes, consider this a friendly tip.

The product, its color reminding me of a banana milkshake, quickly restores the skin’s natural pH balance – a measure of the acid mantle on the surface that protects skin from environmental aggressors. It also leaves my skin softened and nicely hydrated hence there is no need for a toner, however in my case, I’m using the Albion Milk Lotion/Ski-Con for a hydrating boost and to accelerate the healing of a bad breakout.

Philosophy products are available at Sephora at 5 locations in Singapore – ION Orchard, Ngee Ann City, Vivocity, Bugis+ & Marina Bay Sands.
