The Eve Lom philosophy is simple: keep the skincare routine to the bare minimum and allow your skin to breathe. The skin guru who holds credentials in acupuncture, nutrition and massage techniques, started her eponymous line with her cult Cleanser, dubbed by Vogue magazine as “probably the best cleanser in the world.” The London-based brand has since evolved into a pared-down regime based on deep, thorough cleansing.

Using Eve Lom products is an experience hence a great deal of patience and discipline is a requirement. A 7 Step routine has been developed to help the lymphatic nodes to drain congested areas and eliminate toxins. This facial cleansing method can be easily incorporated into your nightly routine, with the Cleanser or any product. It is recommended to use the pads of your fingertips with eyes closed to feel the pressure.
Step 1 – Smooth Eve Lom cleanser over the entire face and neck on top of makeup. Beginning behind the ears, apply deep pressure with the pads of your fingertips and circle down to the collar bone.
Step 2 – Place fingers at the center of the forehead, from brow bone to hairline. Press firmly, hold for a count of 5 and release.
Step 3 – Place 3 fingers under the eyes either side of the nose (leave the little finger out) and with the hands almost flat, apply pressure, hold for a count of 5 and release.
Step 4 – Place fingers above the upper lip, press firmly, hold for a count of 5 and release.
Step 5 – Place fingers, spread like a fan under the cheekbones and press, hold for a count of 5 and release.
Step 6 – Place thumbs under the chin and fingers on top. Press, hold for a count of 5 and release.
Step 7 – To complete the facial, soak the muslin cloth(comes with the cleanser) in hot water and wring out. Hold over the entire face for 5 seconds for the heat to soften the skin and to activate the essential oils, whilst taking a deep breath through the nose. Repeat 3 times.

EVE LOM Rescue Mask – S$120
A clay-based deep cleansing mask that is said to give an instantaneous boost, leaving skin looking healthy and radiant. Recommended for weekly usage.
KEY INGREDIENTS
※ Kaolin – increases localized circulation to combat acne and inflammation
※ Camphor – stimulating component that increases blood flow and treats irritation
※ Almond extract – a natural moisturizer; reduces redness

The product, heavily scented of menthol and camphor, smells exactly like Mopiko, a soothing cream to treat insect bites. The smell is bearable, thanks to the often use of the ointment and the bloodsuckers, and doesn’t linger once the clay has been washed off.
Like other clay masks, you leave it on for 15-20 mins before washing off. Eve Lom recommends rubbing gently with upward movements with a damp muslin cloth.

The SA claims that it’s suitable for all skin types, but for those with sensitive or dehydrated skin, take heed that the mask contains a high content of alcohol. I prefer to apply immediately after cleansing – using a clay-based product could absorb more than the excess oil so it’s better to apply on damp skin, or prep with a hydrating serum if you have dehydrated skin.
Don’t skimp and use a generous amount, to which you could discern a slight warming sensation. I did not feel any heat during my first couple of usage with a thin layer on. The instruction is to stir well before use – there’s a pool of what claims to be a “blend of essential oils,” according to the SA, so I scooped up the desired amount of paste, as well as the fluid, with the spatula included with my purchase and mix in the palms of my hands.

The stirring action is, to my speculation, to activate the temporarily-dormant ingredients together with the “essential oils” before demonstrating its full potential on my skin. Also I didn’t want to contaminate, for lack of a better word, the unused portion of the clay paste.
The Rescue Mask comes with a “gold” spatula but is depicted differently on the website. Mine sure doesn’t look like it’s been laid by a golden goose.

A glance at the ingredients list, there aren’t any essential oils but chemical compounds and several preservatives. Honey is also included to the mix that’s known to calm inflammation. The facial mask can also be used as a spot treatment but I’ve yet to see that wretched headless zit on my chin subsiding. I have yet to see any visible results, but upon wash off, my skin is noticeably soft and firmer.
