Bringing forth their skin care expertise to makeup, CLARINS presents the avant-garde whitening foundation, created for Asian women. Following the discovery of Sea Lily’s ability to prevent melanin inhibition, their researchers have recently determined the dendrites that continues to project melanin pigments and release them in the epidermis.
To curb this issue, they revised the formula to produce a new generation of White Plus HP, which saw the release of the Whitening Velvet Emulsions in January. The Whitening Powder compact incorporates this precise technology, offering double benefits – an unrivaled whitening action and an even, brighter complexion.
Double Whitening Performance
The pigments in the “Pure Lightening” mineral complex illuminate the complexion with a totally transparent look; they help even skin texture, and visibly minimize blemishes.
Benefiting from the same technology utilized in the White Plus HP skincare products, the Advanced “Lock-Around System” plant complex, incorporated with SPF30 PA++++, controls melanin production to the minimum and shields the skin from UVA/UVB rays.
Flawless Hold & Comfort
The micronized powders are coated in amino acids, aiding in absorption of excess sebum whilst preserving the radiance and stability of the color. The “new generation” powders are of a fine quality texture that feels like second skin, and imparts a mattifying effect and promises long-lasting hold in any circumstance.

With the exclusive use of Plant Micropatch, the skin is hydrated where it needs to be. By forming a network on the skin surface, it limits evaporation and preserves the skin’s moisture capital. Together with Aloe extract with its hydrating and softening properties, the epidermis remains supple all day long.
The foundation can be used both Wet & Dry depending on your preference – start from the middle of the face, then delicately smooth out towards the sides, blending in towards the hairline, ears and neck. Use with a dry sponge for a natural result, or damp for a sophisticated finish.

A sleek design reflecting the luminous nature of the foundation with a pearlescent white case. A nice change from their usual fingerprint-attracting gold case, and significantly lighter. Also comes with a matching velvet sleeve.

First Impressions
Its fine particles aren’t discernible when applied, like touching moisturized skin without any traces of powder. On a scale of 1-10, the coverage hinges on a 2. Note that I’m using SIGMA F82 Round Top Kabuki for application instead of the sponge that comes along with the powder refill. The overall appearance is a matte finish – it has a very subtle luminosity minus glitter particles. The skin oozes radiance when light is hit upon the surface, unlike other mattifying formulas that render a dull complexion.
04 Almond may seem a little dark, but its yellow undertones compliments my skin tone very well. I deliberately opted for this shade to help neutralize the greyish cast from BB Creams, whereas the ivory undertones from 02 Petal might appear slightly “wayang.”

Comparing both shades in Natural, the Hydra-Luminous Powder Foundation offers more coverage and luminosity with the skin feeling like marshmallow. It also has slight heavier yellow undertones, compared with the Whitening Compact.
The WHITE PLUS HP Whitening Powder Foundation, available in 5 shades, is now available at all Clarins counters.

I’m interested to try Clarins powders. Which one would you recommend? I wish to use it for everyday.
I’m biased towards Hydra-Luminous because I’ve been using it for a while; it has a better coverage with obvious luminosity. Whereas the Whitening Powder is ultra-light with nearly no coverage.
