Haul: BeautyAsia 2012

Category: Events & Launches, Make Up, Product Introduction

It’s not everyday that I have the luxury to spend a good amount of time with a relatable friend. That being said, yesterday afternoon was well-spent at Suntec Convention Halls with the lovely Sesame from ViVa Woman.

Now in its 16th Year, BeautyAsia is a 3-day trade exhibition that features a “fresh line-up of leading products and upcoming trends for Asia’s beauty and wellness professionals.” The offerings from various exhibitors were slightly underwhelming, for I was expecting a more professional set-up, much like IMATS. Instead, it felt like a bazaar. Communication was a slight problem, considering that many exhibitors hailed from various countries, hence were more comfortable in their native languages.

The main “attraction” is the bounty of nail varnishes at fairly low prices. An hour and a half later, I made away with an unexpected loot, and discovered a potential brand that might be of interest to you. Read on to find out!

LARVA-NA Miracle Pink
Made out of natural plant extracts, this cream claims to be an immediate relief to chapped, dry lips, restoring the skin to a healthier, pinkish glow. The gentle formula is suitable for use on the lips, nipples and nether regions.

This product is a reminiscence of CLARINS Instant Blush Magic Colour, minus the glossy finish. It serves as a temporary solution to soothe my flaky lips. There is a slight discomfort upon application but only lasts for less than a minute. A tube retails for S$24.90 but I’d purchase at the exhibition for S$13

We stumbled upon SKYLAKE, a brand virtually unheard of. According to Team Leader Mr Han, this Korean company was founded 10 years ago. In line with their medical faith in a traditional sense, their products are made from oriental herbs that are specially handpicked from their home town, Kyoung san-City. I’ll save the technology talk for another entry.

SKYLAKE Multi BB Cream SPF20S$35
Formulated with the patented Sky Lake Herb Water(extracted and purified from Oriental Herbs) that promotes skin regrowth with whitening and anti-aging care.

The cream goes on a shade darker but that can be rectified should you use setting powder that’s accustomed to your skin tone, or an illuminating loose powder. It might oxidize hence I recommend a makeup primer that cancels out sallowness eg. DIOR Skin-Refining RadiantBase. During my trial run today, it evens out my skin and covers redness really well, with a slight tightening effect. There’s no tacky feel that I abhor from other BB Creams.

There’s also a distinct scent that derived from the Oriental Herbs – it’s not that overwhelming, provided you apply a smidgeon at a time. The smell doesn’t dissipate quickly either, but overall, it’s not an issue. I have obtained some samples so look out for details in a later entry.

The prices are as follows for some brands that I’ve seen – DEBORAH LIPPMANN (S$19), CHINAGLAZE (S$5), MISA Nail Lacquer (S$5), ZOYA, ORLY. I wanted to get my hands on Deborah Lippmann’s On The Beach but the color look slightly off…

CHINAGLAZE in Japanese Koi
A neon orange that dries to a matte finish.

MISA Nail Lacquer in BACKbone
Natural Base Coat.

MISA Nail Lacquer in Blue Over a Boy
A heavenly sky blue – probably the closest I could ever get to Tiffany & Co, ha!

MISA Nail Lacquer in Phazers on Stunning
A mossy green with specks of glitter. I had initially set my sights on The Great Green Whatsit but it looked rather flat when applied.

Phazers on Stunning definitely pales in comparison when placed alongside SEPHORA Diving In Malaysia, the latter is heavily-laden with antique gold. Nonetheless, I’m satisfied with the choice of colors I came home with.

Nice haul! I have a thing with the ChinaGlaze polishes, I hate that they are matt finish but love the pigmentation in them. Good thing that you can always put on a top coat ^^
