Monthly Woes Of Being A Woman

Category: Beauty Talk, Featured Post, Skin Care

All of us go through different states of emotions on a monthly basis – it’s like a never-ending cycle of having clear, glowing skin today, and then going through a severe breakout the next week. Besides curbing your choice of food intake, there are also precautions we gotta take in the caring of our skin.

I came across this informative article in the latest issue of 「 Beauty 」, a Taiwanese magazine dedicated to fashion and beauty, and thought I’d translate and share with my readers. Hope you’ll find this helpful, and ease your grief☆

Day 1-7Menstruation Week
■ Skin at its driest
■ Key is to stay hydrated; opt for products containing hyaluronic acid to boost skin barrier
I also recommend applying sleeping mask at night to retain moisture.

Day 8-14A Week After Period
■ Skin at its best with better blood circulation
■ Nutrients smoothly transported to skin, hence the best time to indivulge in the best skincare products
■ Favorable time to switch regimen

Day 15-212 Weeks After Period
■ Mid-Cycle aka Ovulation Period
■ Hormonal levels dropped to the lowest
■ Skin’s sensitivity heightens; prone to allergies or adverse reactions
■ Hold off exfoliation this week; use a mild formula (water or gel-based) if you must

Day 22-28A Week Before Period
■ Higher body temperature = hot-temperedness, easily irritated
■ Low levels of ostrogen leading to increasing sebum secretion
■ Skin more susceptible to breakouts
■ Exfoliate with AHA/BHA* to stimulate new skin growth of skin and collagen
■ Skin’s lipid barrier at its weakest leading to loss of moisture
*Unless you have oily-combination skin type, cut down AHA/BHA usage. Additionally, the exfoliants will render your skin vulnerable to UV rays so reinforce sunscreen.
